Exploring the Future of Batteries at the Faraday Institution Conference 2025

Each year the Faraday Institution Conference brings together academia, industry and policy to power the UK’s battery future.

We’re looking forward to attending the Faraday Institution Conference 2025, taking place from 9–11 September at the University of Warwick in Coventry. This year’s theme, ‘Energising the UK Battery Ecosystem’, will bring together leading voices from academia, industry and policy to explore the future of energy storage. With a spotlight on collaboration, the event promises to showcase ground-breaking research from the UK and beyond, highlighting how partnerships can accelerate innovation and drive progress towards a net zero future.

The conference will explore ten cross-cutting themes shaping the battery landscape:

  • Active Materials & Supply Chain
  • New Battery Chemistries & Interfaces
  • Battery Modelling
  • Electrode Manufacturing
  • Advanced Characterisation & Degradation
  • Advances in Recycling & Reuse
  • Battery Safety & Abuse
  • Addressing the Battery Skills Gap
  • Battery Roadmaps
  • From Innovation to Market

As the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, the Faraday Institution plays a pivotal role in advancing battery technology, developing skills, and supporting early-stage commercialisation. Its work is focused on reducing the cost, weight and size of batteries, while improving performance, safety and circular economy strategies.

Hosting the event is the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) – a department at the University of Warwick known for its interdisciplinary research and strong links with industry. As a hub for innovation in battery R&D, the Midlands region provides the perfect setting for this dynamic event.

We’re looking forward to connecting with fellow researchers, industry leaders and policymakers to share ideas, forge new partnerships and help shape the future of energy storage.
