Weiss Technik UK Ltd are pleased to announce that they have been successful in securing the order for a second Drive-in test facility at MAHLE Powertrain in Northampton.

MAHLE is a leading international development partner and supplier to the automotive industry. The technology group is now broadly positioned in the areas of powertrain technology and thermal management with a clear focus on future topics relating to mobility. As part of its dual strategy, MAHLE is working both on the intelligent combustion engine for the use of hydrogen and other nonfossil fuels and on technologies that will help the fuel cell and e-mobility achieve broad acceptance in the markets. The product portfolio of the company, which was founded in 1920, addresses all the crucial aspects of the powertrain and air conditioning technology. Half of all vehicles in the world now contain MAHLE components. In 2020, MAHLE generated sales of approximately EUR 9.8 billion and is represented in over 30 countries with more than 72,000 employees in 160 production locations and 12 major research and development centers.

MAHLE Powertrain is an engineering consultancy providing extensive design, development, testing and integration services to their customers. MAHLE Powertrain conducts engineering projects, both for their customers and on behalf of MAHLE Group. They focus on the development of production feasible driveline solutions for enhanced efficiency, improved fuel economy and lower emissions.

Weiss Technik UK is in the production phase of a second Chassis Dynamometer Test Chamber to complement their existing Altitude test facility which has already been in operation for 3 years (since July, 2018). This chamber will compliment for the design, development and integration of advanced internal combustion engines and electrified powertrain systems and will aid the development of drive systems and components for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

These cutting-edge chambers will allow MAHLE Powertrain to be able to concentrate their existing chamber to perform Altitude tests. The new chamber will be able to perform all climatic tests that are currently available in their altitude chamber, and in addition allows them to offer testing for Solar Simulation to relevant standards such as SC03. This solar simulation device has been specially designed as a mobile system which will also allow MAHLE Powertrain to use the solar simulation system in both chambers on site. This project will provide an R&D facility to engineer the next generation transport technology, central to the government’s Road to Zero strategy, with the development of a new test chamber at MAHLE Powertrain.
